ACADEMICS

The six years a student spends in the Academy are divided into three sections of two years each for the convenience of the counselors.

Academic Structure

At the Junior Secondary level, the academic work is based on the National Curriculum for the subjects and the syllabi of examinations conducted by NECO and Edo State Ministry of education.

An intense leadership training and hands-on activities to initiate spontaneous self-discipline, self-confidence and self-reliance are also part of our vision for the upper basic level.

The academy offers an accelerated Mathematics and Science curriculum integrated with language, humanities, art, sports, music, and leadership training.

The courses are taught in well-planned concentric units with an organized modular system. Students choose guided research topics every year, for which they present a defense. Don Bosco Science Academy pursues excellence in academic performance by a well-structured scheme of work and good time management.

The six years a student spends in the Academy are divided into three sections of two years each for the convenience of the counselors.

The first section is a training period for taking responsibility for one’s own actions and independently working out a timetable for study and other activities i.e., the skill of time management. Students are gently directed to make the right choices by the counselors, mentors, and student assistants.

This period in an individual’s life is very important and the changes needed are accomplished in this first section by building up the self-worth and self-confidence in our students.

The second section, years 3 and 4, are a period that we confidently let the students work on their own with distant supervision. At this period most of our students are in their early teens and proper training is given to handle personal hygiene, healthy eating habits, exercise, sex education, the influence of hormones on the emotional life, etc.

The third section of two years is for intense leadership training and equipping them to successfully manage themselves in tertiary institutions.

All three sections are joined in a seamless transition.
